Talk about a brilliant collaboration, Vicetone have teamed up with Haley Reinhart for their new single “Something Strange” and have dropped an awesome music video to accompany it. The song follows up Vicetone’s “Southbeach” and Haley Reinhart’s “Don’t Know How To Love You”.
Vicetone are a Dutch DJ duo consisting of Ruben Den Boer and Victor Pool. They have made the list of the Top 100 DJs in DJ Mag consecutively from 2013 – 2015 and in 2017 they ranked at number 125, just missing out. They have released tonnes of singles and have worked with the likes of Nicky Romero, Collin McLoughlin, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, and Foster The People; whilst they have remixed singles from the likes of Adele, Cash Cash, Maroon 5, and Calvin Harris. In 2016, they dropped their debut album “Aurora” through Spinnin’ Records.
Featured on the track is Haley Reinhart, who is a singer-songwriter from Illinois. She’s mostly known for being a contestant on the tenth series of American Idol, where she came third overall. She gained worldwide attention in 2015 when she performed and toured with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, and her cover version of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” went viral in the same year when the song was used for Wrigley’s Extra chewing gum commercials. She has released a total of eight solo singles and three studio albums. She also voice acts, by lending her voice to Bill Murphy, a character in the Netflix comedy animation show F is for Family. She’s definitely one to watch.
We couldn’t think of a better collaboration as these two artists compliment each other beautifully, creating quite the magical sound. According to Spotify, the single has been written by Haley Reinhart, Ruben Christopher Den Boer, and Victor Pool. This release is the debut track from the forthcoming EP from Vicetone that is set to be titled “Elements”, with the second single being “Fences” which is planned to be released in January 2019.
Talking about the track, Ruben Den Boer from Vicetone said, “We’d created the track and needed a vocal, and tried combining it with a vocal that we wrote with Haley for a completely different song,” he says. “It ended up fitting like a glove—even better than the track the vocal was actually written for—which is really kind of crazy.”
As Haley Reinhart’s first feature on a dance music track, she added “I wrote the top line for Vicetone a while ago for another artist in mind; they came back and wanted my voice on it! This tune has such electricity in it, as the lyric expresses a darker side of a relationship. I’m very excited to tap into the dance music world!”
Watch Vicetone’s Music Video For “Something Better” Featuring Haley Reinhart Here:
Haley Reinhart’s angelic vocal throughout this track drifts us away completely but paired with Vicetone’s piano chords, which are on par to her voice, makes us utterly fall in love with this dance track. It has a smooth melodic style with an up-tempo vibe that is sure to get everyone on the dance floor and singing along.
As for the video itself, it has a constant blue filter to the whole thing adding this cold and dark chill to the visual – which is a brilliant effect since the song itself has depth. We see a performance and a dance narrative integrated throughout. Haley Reinhart looks absolutely stunning as she sings into the microphone and acting as if dance music is her typical genre – she totally nails it – all the while Vicetone displays an energetic performance showcasing their natural performance ability. Throughout, we watch a man and woman knock out a brilliant contemporary dance routine that really tells the story of the song which is about saying goodbye to a loved one because they are not the person who they used to be.
“Something Strange” is available to download and stream right now via Monstercat. This is the first single from Vicetone’s upcoming EP “Elements”. Look out for the second single to drop from the EP, titled “Fences” in January 2019.
