X Factor Bulgaria star Victoria Georgieva, also known as VICTORIA has been announced as a representative of Bulgaria for Eurovision Song Contest 2020. The announcement was made by BNT during a press conference held in Sofia.
Competing in the same season of the X Factor as Kristian Kostov, Victoria was placed sixth but won everyone’s heart with her vocals. Kostov finished second when he participated in Eurovision so, where will Bulgaria land up in 2020? The artist shared excitement over her participation and said:
“I am proud to be the Bulgarian artist in Rotterdam. I am privileged to be able to make music that I believe in and to have the freedom to be who I am. Being the Bulgarian ambassador on such a huge stage is a big responsibility, as the Eurovision Song Contest matters to so many people in Bulgaria.”
The official channel of Eurovision released a short film introducing VICTORIA. Tracing her journey back home and her life through hardships, the artist shares her vision for music. Aligning the message with the theme of this year’s contest, the video enables the artist to share the art she expects her audience to consume and what factors would contribute to the realisation of her dream.
While other countries are entering the contest with strong contenders in an attempt to reach finals and win, Bulgaria seems to have something else in mind. The broadcaster BNT, in collaboration with artist’s label and production team, are working towards increasing VICTORIA’s visibility. With an aim to build ‘business relationships’, the teams are coming together to help Bulgarian artists gain commercial success by giving them a huge platform like Eurovision to experiment and improvise. Victoria’s new album will be released next year while her song for the contest will be released in March 2020.
We expect some more Eurovision 2020 acts are set to be announced soon; so far we have Blas Cantó for Spain, Hooverphonic for Belgium, and VICTORIA for Bulgaria.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2020 will take place at the Rotterdam Ahoy, Rotterdam, the Netherlands after Duncan Laurence won the 2019 contest with the song “Arcade” where he scored a total of 498 points. The two Semi-Finals will be taking place on 12 May 2020 and 14 May 2020, whilst the Grand Final will take place on 16 May 2020.
