On the Sunday premiere of the The Voice (August 21, 2016), coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys performed a touching yet mesmerizing cover of Aerosmith’s ‘Dream On’. The entire performance was a dedication to late singer Christina Grimmie, who passed away earlier this year following a concert in Orlando, Florida.
The panel this year introduces the bubbly and high spirited Miley Cyrus, who the other voice coaches agree is a fresh and great choice who represent the new younger generation of talented vocalists.
Watch below as the quartet pour out their heart and soul. The crowd’s energetic reaction says it all.
Grimmie was a contestant on Season 6 of the The Voice (U.S Version) and ended up in third place. On the live finale she performed three cover songs which included Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’, Gotye and Kimbra’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ and Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’.
She would later on go to independently release her second EP, Side A, her last musical release. It debuted and peaked at #25 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart. Overall, the album’s pop and teen pop influence are highly noted as well as Grimmie’s strong and controlled vocals.
