The song tells the story of a love that hurts without demand, consisting of powerful lyrics such as “You’ve got a hold of me/Don’t even know your power.” For anyone who has ever developed an unreciprocated passion for someone, this track will hit you right in the feels.
Mendes said in a recent interview with Larry King, the 18-year-old’s mother even cried while watching her son’s latest video for the first time because of how powerful it is. Trust us when we say, Mrs. Mendes wasn’t the only one shedding tears.
In the video, the “Treat You Better” singer portrays a character who is stuck in a vehicle that has somehow made its way underwater.
