Wayne Rooney‘s magnificent career is one that probably every football player want for themselves. It’s because he’s not just a top player but also a great dad and a great human being with full of motivation and joy.
He found the club that is right for him so he could have achieved so many things so far that many people just dream about.
Rooney who moved to United from Everton in 2004, has scored 245 goals for the Reds in 520 appearances. With this, he just has to score five to overtake Sir Bobby Charlton and break his all-time scoring record. Also, Wayne has won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, one FA Cup, the Fifa Club World Cup and two League Cups during his 12 years at Manchester United.
For me, there could not be a more special testimonial match. Manchester United and Everton are the only clubs I have played for as a professional footballer. I am happy to say now that, whatever may happen in the future, I will never play for another Premier League club. – Wayne stated.
Isn’t it just incredible how the skipper has been England’s best player for over a decade now?
We still can’t believe, but Wednesday’s occasion made a memorable night in every footballer’s and football fan’s life.
Wayne Rooney‘s testimonial charity match against his only one previous professional club Everton was announced a couple of months ago, and it kicked off yesterday night on Manchester United‘s home ground, at Old Trafford.
Although the game ended in a drab 0-0 draw, we can definitely state that it was Rooney’s big and emotional night where he was in the spotlight.
The match received huge – and deserved hype indeed.
It made history as the first ever match between Premier League teams to be shown live on social media. Besides, fans could be able to watch the game not only on Rooney’s personal and United’s Facebook page but on BT Sport, too.
I am delighted my testimonial game will be streamed globally, which will hopefully raise awareness and increase donations. – Rooney said.
Yep, as it was said the match marked the start of a testimonial year of fundraising by United’s and the captain’s Foundation with helping Wayne to raise lots of money to support disadvantaged and vulnerable children. Their aim is to raise £5million.
We learned that testimonials are great ways to earn money for charity, and this was the main reason why the event was organised. Rooney very kindly decided to donate the money made that night, distributing through the newly-launched Wayne Rooney Foundation to four charities chosen by Wayne: the NSPCC, Claire House Children’s Hospice, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and the Manchester United Foundation.
Each has been selected because of Wayne’s personal commitment to the organisations and the children they help.
The money raised will go to a lot of children who are in desperate need of it, so you all should be proud of yourselves – thank you. – Rooney said.
This wasn’t the last time when the sell-out crowd could pay tribute to England captain’s remarkable career achievements and to help support children in need. Other events are going to be announced later!
Before the kick-off, both teams lined up to welcome Wayne Rooney and his children Kai, Klay and Kit onto the pitch where, moreover, they could be able to see a red mosaic spelling “Rooney” in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand.
The hero of the night played 52 minutes before going off to a standing ovation from the huge crowd. Probably this was the most emotional part of the testimonial.
The match was also a memorable one to new manager Jose Mourinho because this was his first game in charge at Old Trafford, meanwhile, new signings of the summer, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic made their first home debuts.
At the final whistle, the skipper addressed the attendants on the pitch to thank them for their incredible support.
Thank you everyone who came tonight for all the money raised. It’ll help a lot of children and you all should be proud. I want to thank Everton fans for coming along.
I’d just like to say to Manchester United fans I’ve spent 12 years here, I’ve had great success and hopefully there will be a lot more trophies. Thank you.
Maybe this clash wasn’t the most exciting, most eventful one but it left its mark on many people’s heart, while Wayne Rooney himself actually became a real legend.
Tonight is a night myself and my family will always remember. – he said after the game.
It’s sure that people won’t easily forget his name in the future. Here’s to much more, Wayne!
