Yes, it is right… Westlife is going to be back next summer! Westlife will be doing an all-new stadium tour next year in the summer for the first time ever!
Westlife is an Irish pop boy band that formed in 1998. They were first called ‘6 as 1’ then it changed to ‘I.O.YOU’. The band started with Kian Egan, Mark Feehily and Shane Filan; they first performed in their school musical ‘Grease’. After this, they wanted to form their own band.
In Ireland and in the year of 1997 I.O.YOU released their first single called ‘Together Girl Forever’. After this happened, the boys contacted the manager of Boyzone, Louis Walsh to convince him to sign them up. Unfortunately, Louis had enough time managing one boy band, so he had to decline their offer. However, boy band member Ronan Keating from Boyzone agreed to co-manage I.O.YOU with Louis Walsh; this was where Rolo management was formed.
In 1998, the band went from 3 to 5 members; this happened when auditions were held in Dublin to find extra members for I.O.YOU. So, Brian Mcfadden and Nicky Byrne joined; the boys were now known as Westside. The band was born!
The band first went on tour with Backstreet boys where they performed as their supporting act; and they also toured in Dublin, UK and Ireland with Boyzone in 1998. This led them to victory where they won the ‘Best new tour act’ in November 1988.
Then in 1999, it was discovered that the band shared their name with another pop band. So, Westside was now Westlife! This led to Westlife releasing their single ‘Swear it again’ in April 1999. The single was a massive hit as it went to the top in the British and Irish charts.
Sadly in 2004, Brian Mcfadden left Westlife as he wanted to spend more time with his family and to focus on his solo career too. Now, Westlife had four members.
Westlife started to record a variety of albums and songs such as ‘Coast to Coast’ in 2000, ‘Unbreakable’ in 2002, ‘Gravity’ in 2010 and many more. They also released a new album this year called ‘Spectrum’. They have sold over 45 million albums!
So, Westlife will be performing at the best venues in the UK where they will sing their greatest hits and also including new releases too.
