Liam Payne was scheduled to play at  Children with Cancer UK’s SummerChime gig last week. It was an outside gig which very sadly had to be cancelled last minute due to the unpredictable British weather, as it was deemed unsafe to fo ahead due to severe weather warnings from the Met office.  It was planned that during the gig Children with Cancer would show a young girl named Suki’s story and she would meet Liam.

As the gig did not go-ahead it didn’t happen as planned but the charity still wanted to share her story, so Suki got to meet Liam to tell him about her cancer journey. Liam met with Suki and her family for a fun photoshoot at One Aldwych Hotel in London.

Suki was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in January 2017, aged just four. Her journey included long spells in hospital, gruelling chemotherapy, hair loss and extreme side-effects from steroid medication.

Thankfully Suki has now finished her treatment and on Wednesday 7th August experienced the moment every child battling cancer looks forward to – chiming the end of treatment bell.

Suki is one of the lucky ones. Each week 10 children and young people tragically lose their lives to cancer. Children with Cancer UK is dedicated to raising and investing funds for vital specialist research to save the life of every child with cancer and keep their family together.

What began as a small memorial charity in 1988 has evolved into a major force, raising over £250 million and investing in over 200 research projects to help fight the injustice of cancer in children.

Thanks to the charities ground-breaking research they have helped to improve children’s cancer survival rates from 64% in 1990 to 84% in 2017.
