Julie Andrews Won’t Be Appearing In “Mary Poppins Returns” For The Most Heart-Warming Reason

It has now been over a year since we first confirmed that a Mary Poppins sequel was on it’s way and ever since it was revealed that Emily Blunt would be stepping into the iconic nanny’s shoes for the upcoming movie, fans of the original have been begging to know whether Julie Andrews will be putting in an appearance or not. The bad news is that the iconic actress who first had the role will not be starring in the sequel, but the good news is that it is for the most heart-warming reason.

Now before we go on, does everyone have a tissue handy? You’ll definitely need one…

Julie Andrews will not be starring in the upcoming sequel titled, “Mary Poppins Returns,” because she doesn’t want to overshadow the movie’s new leading lady, Emily Blunt. How sweet! According to the film’s director Rob Marshall, Andrews has known that the sequel was in the works for years and she has given her blessing for it to be made from day one.

Marshall recently stated that, “Julie will always have, for me and for everybody, the most astonishing performance as Mary Poppins… But Emily is the perfect person to carry the torch and I know that Julie feels the exact same way. She loves her.”

Marshall then added that Andrews made the decision not to appear in the sequel on her own terms because she wanted to show respect to Blunt. “Julie was incredibly gracious and we talked about it in a very general way but she made it clear up front. She told me, ‘This is Emily’s show now. I don’t want it to be, “Oh here’s that Mary Poppins.” I don’t want that. I want her to take this and run with it because she will be brilliant.'”

And so there you have it. Julie Andrews won’t be starring in, “Mary Poppins Returns,” she adores Emily Blunt as much as we do, she is a total class act, she is the sweetest person ever and… We just love Julie Andrews, okay?!

Seriously though, we can’t think of anyone better to step into Andrews’ shoes than Emily Blunt and we can’t wait to see her take to the big screen in the role of the famous nanny when, “Mary Poppins Returns,” is released on 25th December, 2018.

Just look at how amazing she looks as Mary Poppins 2.0:

The upcoming sequel will take place a whole twenty-five years from where the original left off in a Depression-era London. It will see the nanny return to Michael and Jane Banks following a big family tragedy after which they are both in desperate need of her company, companionship, and magic.

And as well as having what sounds like an incredible plot, “Mary Poppins Returns,” also boasts one of the most stellar casts we have heard of in a while. Alongside Blunt, Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer will be portraying the roles of the Banks children who are now all grown up and have their own families. Lin-Manuel Miranda will also be starring in the sequel as well as Meryl Streep, Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson, Nathanael Saleh, and Dick Van Dyke.

Yes, you did read that right. The legendary Dick Van Dyke will be making a comeback to the magical story, but his role will differ from the one he played in the original movie. At this point, our excitement is too much to handle and we should probably end this now so that we can go break out into a terrible rendition of, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!”
