The 2024 BRIT Awards nominations have been announced, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable night in British music.
Leading the pack is the phenomenal RAYE, who has made history by garnering an unprecedented seven nominations – the most for any single artist in a year since the inception of the BRITs in 1977.
RAYE’s nominations span across several major categories, including Artist of the Year and Mastercard Album of the Year, highlighting her incredible impact and success in the music industry. This achievement surpasses the previous record of six nominations held by notable artists like Gorillaz, Craig David, and Robbie Williams.
The nominations were unveiled in a 30-minute special titled ‘Bring on The BRITs with Mastercard: The 2024 Nominations’, streamed across the BRITs’ official Instagram and Facebook channels. Host Yinka Bokinni, along with Jack Saunders, took viewers through the exciting category shortlists, featuring appearances from some of the nominated artists.
In a significant move for gender representation in music awards, over half (55%) of this year’s nominations feature women, either as solo artists or as part of all-women groups. This reflects a growing trend towards inclusivity and diversity in the music industry.
The BRIT Awards 2024 sees a notable change in the nominations for both Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year categories, increasing the number of nominees from five to ten. This decision is part of a broader effort to improve representation and inclusion within the awards.
A highlight of this year’s nominations includes Dua Lipa, who is up for three awards and is the first artist confirmed to perform at the main event. Central Cee and J Hus also stand out with four nominations each.
The BRITs have also introduced a new genre award category for R&B Act, showcasing the versatility and diverse styles of music in the UK. This addition, along with Alternative/Rock Act, Dance Act, Pop Act, and Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act, highlights the rich tapestry of British music.
For the first time in over a decade, The Rolling Stones have been nominated for a BRIT award, adding to the evening’s excitement. Other notable nominees include Blur, Calvin Harris, Dave, Little Simz, Olivia Dean, and Young Fathers, all contending for three awards each.
The winners, to be awarded a trophy designed by visual artist Rachel Jones, will be revealed at The BRIT Awards with Mastercard on 2nd March at The O2 arena, live on ITV1 and ITVX. Fans can vote for the genre awards through Instagram starting 1st February.
With the announcement of the nominations, the 2024 BRIT Awards are shaping up to be a celebration of both established and emerging talents in the British music scene.
From record-breaking nominations to new categories and partnerships, this year’s BRITs are set to be a milestone event in the history of British music awards.
