Famous YouTuber, Alfie Deyes of PointlessBlog, urges his 2.6M followers on Twitter
“@PointlessBlog: Please don’t ever go to @SeaWorld!”
He then links a heartbreaking video of an Orca’s “Draw My Life” video.
Alfie is one of many celebrities who stand against SeaWorld and it’s many controversial practices of keeping orcas and other sealife in captivity.
Rallying against SeaWorlds’ practices was kick started when the documentary Blackfish came out in 2013, which can be watched on Netflix.
Blackfish exposed many myths and painted a gruesome picture of how orca whales in captivity were really treated.
Forced to live in small quarters, separated from family, calves rejected by their mothers, overbreeding, and breeding too young are just some of the many problems that occur with orca whales at SeaWorld.
Another notable celebrity against SeaWorld is Game of Thrones actress, Maisie Williams. Williams is a dolphin activist, even marching in a protest to stop dolphins from being hunted and kept in captivity. Williams is also an ambassador for The Dolphin Project, which works to stop captivity of dolphins as well as releasing of dolphins already in captivity.
Another activist to marine mammals not being in captivity is One Direction’s, Harry Styles. During the band’s North America leg of their On The Road Again tour, Styles quipped “Does anybody like dolphins? Don’t go to SeaWorld!” to a stadium full of people.
Maisie Williams was even one of the people at the concert which took place July 9th at Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego and got Styles’ comment on video.
That’s right right ladies and gentleman, Harry Styles, whom millions look up to, said not to go to SeaWorld in a San Diego Stadium where SeaWorld San Diego is one of the most popular attractions – although in recent years, not so much.
In the past, Styles tweeted about watching The Cove, a heart wrenching documentary about dolphin hunting
“@Harry_Style: Just watched ‘The Cove’ and it’s one of the best and worst films I’ve ever seen. Unbelievable. Watch it and see what you think..”
The Cove starred the Founder of The Dolphin Project, Ric O’Barry, who has played a fundamental role in dolphin activism.
I urge everyone to get informed about SeaWorld’s practices, watch documentaries, read articles, and please do not support SeaWorld.
