This is the follow-up to Yvie Oddly’s collaboration with Lachi and Black Caviar on the single “Black Girl Cornrows” which also features QuestionATL; and Wreckno’s collaboration with G-Space on the single “Reptilian” which features 0Ddpoison.
Yvie Oddly is best known for winning the eleventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and she later returned for RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season seven, which was an all-winners season where they competed to become the best of the best, however, she didn’t make it into the top four and instead competed for the title of “Queen of She Done Already Done Had Herses”, which was won by Raja. Since winning in the seventh season, she’s gone on to do incredible things such as tour the entire world and be a mainstay performer on the globally known Werq the World drag concert tour, and she even launched her own TV series, known as “Yvie Oddly’s Oddities” on WOW Presents Plus. The track starts off with Yvie Oddly’s signature laugh that sounds so dirty and so incredible that she really owns it and, just kicking the track off with it, effortlessly makes a beautiful statement of not being afraid to be yourself. Rhythmically groovy with a punchy backing beat, “Topsy Turvy” allows both artists to shine in their respective ways. Yvie Oddly doesn’t hold back with her verse, starting off with a slow rap before impressing with her quick-fire lines, bringing awesome rhymes that effortlessly work as she delves into the fact that she’s a grafter and deserves to be where she is – on top form, at the top of her game. As for Wreckno, he too brings it, showcasing that he too is on such a level and in doing so no one can knock them down. Then, without even acknowledging it, Wreckno switches the track and the vibe up, effortlessly, bringing an Aqua “Barbie Girl” atmosphere, which links in perfectly with Wreckno’s entire style, before Yvie Oddly flips it back with an iconic sassy rap that is fierce in every way. This track is more than a bit topsy-turvy but in an addictive unstoppable way that we never want to end – we’ll just click the repeat button instead.
Then there’s the music video, which has a cheerleader aesthetic to it, but in a dragged-up fashion with the backstage start. We watch the two incredible artists chat away before their cheer audition in front of a panel of three, but a rival – played by Lexi Brumback – storms in and leaves some spiked water bottles, which Yvie Oddly and Wreckno drink. They start to spiral into a high like no other, and they catch Lexi Brumback’s incredible audition full of backflips and gymnastic moves. Instead of being fazed, their high mentality gives them the confidence to go out there and bring it, and that’s exactly what they do, showcasing their dance ability, singing ability, cheerleader choreography ability, and complete professionalism, as they go on to win the cheerleader contest much to a disgruntled Lexi Brumback. This fun and unforgettable music video really tells a story of not being afraid to be yourself and be the best that you can be in every situation possible. With a narrative like no other, that’s got comedic value showcasing these drag performers’ personalities, “Topsy Turvy” is exactly the vibe we all need in our lives.
