Two years after their last release, the Zac Brown Band have finally made their return to music with a brand new single titled, “Someone I Used To Know,” and it was co-written by someone else you may have heard of… Shawn Mendes!
Yes, you read that right. The, “Stitches,” singer joined forces with the Atlanta-based country band for their latest release and we have to say, this combination of Mendes’ amazing songwriting skills with the band’s upbeat and quirky sound is pure genius.
“Someone I Used To Know,” which was released yesterday (9th November), is a track that will surely have you on your feet and dancing around your house in no time. Featuring acoustic guitars, groovy harmonica melodies and catchy clicking fingers alongside an up-tempo beat, we dare you to try and listen to it without at least bobbing your head.
The lyrics include lines like, “Had to hit rock bottom to know, when you keep on losin’ the path you’re choosin’, then it’s time to let go, of someone that I used to know,” and, “Would stay another round,” it is safe to say that this song is going to resonate with a lot of people out there.
And singer Zac Brown carries the message of the track perfectly. He sings with such gritty emotion, while still managing to keep that funky, upbeat Zac Brown Band sound that we all love.
But, how did the Zac Brown Band come to ask for Shawn Mendes’ help on their new single, we hear you ask? Well, in case you didn’t know the guys recently teamed up on, “CMT Crossroads,” and hit it off right away.
“Shawn is an incredibly talented artist,” lead singer Zac Brown said of the twenty-year-old. “It’s been exciting to watch his career rise over the past few years. We’ve had such fun collaborating together.”
And so the Zac Brown Band’s brand new single, “Someone I Used To Know,” was born.
