Zayn on Music, Fashion, and ‘Being in There’

Zayn, one of the hottest and most talked about names in entertainment, sat down with GQ Magazine recently and talked about his rise to solo stardom and what comes next.  For Zayn, it’s not just new music on the horizon – it’s fashion, thanking fate, and constantly realizing his blessings.

You know, undoubtedly, that Zayn got his career start as 1/5 of One Direction. Yes, Zayn comes from a boyband start and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.  While he’s distanced himself from the image thrust upon him as a member of One Direction, an image that didn’t allow him to embrace himself in the way he desired right down to the length of his facial hair, the negative connotation that comes from being in a ‘boyband’ is seemingly still attached.

Not that it seems to touch him much, Zayn grew into a strong sense of confidence and self-awareness over the past year and he’s definitely got thick – and beautifully tattooed – skin.

Speaking of Zayn’s image, quite frankly, he is absolutely stunning.  You’d be hard-pressed to look at a photo of Zayn and find a flaw so there’s no surprise that his entire spread of photos with GQ takes your breath away.

It’s about being happy to look a bit scruffy, I just got into the whole rock sort of feel to clothes—big boots, skinny jeans, and dark T-shirt, and rings. Just the grungy feel.

In addition to getting into the look himself, he also paired up with designer Giuseppe Zanotti on a line of boots that will debut in 2017.  He met the designer at Fashion Week and an easy bond was formed between the two based largely on the way they use their art boldly.

Just this week, Zayn’s music video with Snakehips for song “Cruel” hit the internet and was trending within moments, he’s got a couple scattered appearances in the future, and he’s not slowing down on his ambition to blend fashion into his life in any way that he can. Speaking on what’s next for him, he says he wants to continue to be a presence.

I’m being very, like, blessed at the minute by God or whoever it is, fate or whatever, so um, there’s a lot of offers come our way at the minute with different things to do with fashion. And hopefully I get to get involved in all of them. I’d love to just continually have a presence, because I feel like it’s very heavily tied into music and the image and the fashion, and it’s all kind of one thing. So you kinda gotta be in there, I guess.

Zayn is definitely ‘in there’ and with talent on a scope as wide as he’s got it, there’s no doubt that he’ll be a continued presence in the industry for years to come.
