Zayn surprised us all by dropping a new single with Taylor Swift just last week, so it only makes sense that he would want to explain everything behind the collaboration. Zayn took time out of his busy recording schedule to talk to Z100 in NYC.

Zayn revealed that he and Taylor didn’t record the single at the same time, probably due to schedule conflicts. They both liked the song written by Lena Dunham’s boyfriend Jack Antonoff and Sam Dew so Zayn recorded his parts in Los Angeles while Swift recorded hers in Antonoff’s house. He was the one to mention Taylor in terms of the collaboration. He says that it was an easy collab with the singer considering his personal connections to her.

He also went into about how his influences range from 90’s Hip-Hop to rock and beyond showing the diversity of his sound. He took the time to speak about his book and how it came to be just through recording stories and small interviews. He had a lengthy chat about his hometown and how his songwriting has alleviated a lot of his negative thoughts. Malik has been very vocal about his anxiety which has prevented him from performing live, so it’s nice to hear him speaking about ways to calm those fears.

This was a big interview for Zayn, especially since has not been on an on-air radio show lately. There have also been rumors that he is setting out to release a second album within the year but nothing has been confirmed. He has been recording, though, which means there is hope. If this new single is any indication, already an iTunes and soon to be a radio hit, it means Zayn is going to be sticking around as much as possible. We know we couldn’t be any happier or prouder of him.
You can find the interview here and check out our article about his interview the following day as well.
