Zayn’s debut solo album, Mind of Mine has officially debuted at number one on the U.K.s Official Albums Chart!
Adele’s album 25, was knocked to second place, finishing just 4,000 sales behind Mind of Mine.
In a statement released to OfficialCharts.com, Zayn expressed his thanks for this amazing accomplishment.
I want to thank all the fans and my team at RCA and First Access Entertainment for everything they have done to help me start my journey as a solo artist. It really is the beginning. I can’t believe that I have managed to achieve this as a solo artist.
I am very proud coming from Bradford achieving this in my home country. It’s mind-blowing to me. I don’t take the support I have received for granted. My life at 23 could have been very different.
Debuting at number one, Zayn’s first single, Pillowtalk, was highly praised, and–at its release–was the fastest selling single of 2016. Pillowtalk topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and Zayn joined the ranks of Adele and Elton John as the only U.K. artists to do so.
In an interview with Complex Magazine, he chatted about the relationship between authenticity and success. He noted, quite profoundly, that success follows authenticity. If that is the case, then Mind of Mine is as authentic as it gets! His talent shines through in this album, with each track bleeding into next, almost as if weaving together a story.
