Sydney-based pop recording artist Zeliha has released her latest lyric provoking hit song ‘Like Me.’ The infectious pop song has a powerful message for those feeling consumed by today’s digital world and the need to feel validated on social media.
“When I was younger, I struggled with acne and acne scarring, which led me to compare myself constantly to the flawless images portrayed by the hottest models and influencers on social media. In today’s world, we are consumed by apps like Instagram, TikTok, and others, spending significant time on our screens, mesmerized by the seemingly “picture-perfect” lives of others. We get caught up in the number of likes, comments, and followers, losing sight of reality.”
The need for the internet’s constant validation from others was the inspiration behind the song.
“The realization inspired me to write a song that reflects this newfound self-love and acceptance. With the support of my good friends Kartik Kuna and Jordan Leonard, we crafted a positive and upbeat track. We had a blast experimenting with phone sounds in the song, symbolizing the digital world’s influence on our self-perceptions.”
On listening to the song, we hear the use of different phone and notification sounds you hear when you’re on different Apps or typing. We are living in a digital haze and ‘Like Me’ is the power song we need to break through the noise and wake to the realization that as we are, we are enough.
The accompanying music video for the song has been equally thought out to reflect the message of diversity, inclusion, and togetherness.
“I chose to visually display denim with styling because I believe denim is such a universal fabric most people wear from all different backgrounds. And I liked the idea of putting different color denims together to spread a message of togetherness. It was equally important to have representation from a multitude of cultures and body shapes. Not one person represents us, and that was important to share.”
Zeliha’s single ‘Like Me’ has a strong message for everyone that needs to feel self-worth. “I don’t need anyone to like me, I need to like me” because what truly matters is that we like ourselves and embrace our uniqueness. This sentiment resonates with many others who have also felt the pressures of social media and the unrealistic standards it perpetuates. Through the song, Zeliha aims to spread positivity, self-empowerment, and the understanding that true happiness comes from within, not from the validation of others.
Growing up in various countries like the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Australia, Zeliha’s life was a whirlwind of constant movement and adaptation. Amidst the challenges of constantly relocating, she found solace in writing what she perceived as pop songs and turned to singing as a means to balance her emotions as a shy child, who often faced bullying and lacked long-term friendships in foreign environments.
Her dedication to authenticity and mindfulness in her music continues to resonate with audiences, making her an artist to watch in the evolving music landscape.
