For many decades, the UK has produced artists that have ended up topping the charts worldwide year after year. Scandinavian producers have been behind many of these chart toppers but little by little the local performers have been taking the world by storm.
2016 was a great year for both the UK and the Nordic countries with Lukas Graham, Zara Larsson, Jonas Blue, Alan Walker, Dua Lipa, Anne Marie and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man conquering the “best of the year” lists.
2017 is looking promising for some grime artists like AJ Tracey and the UK urban girls, with Raye, Ray BLK, Jorja Smith and Nadia Rose already making the waves. Scandinavians are not falling behind and hopefully we may be getting new tracks from the likes of Matoma, MØ or Tove Lo.
After so many great years of pop music coming from these countries, who may continue with the tradition? These are 10 British and Scandinavian artists on their way to the top:
Tom Grennan
Tom is an alternative-soul singer-songwriter from Bedford, UK. He has been shortlisted for several “artists to watch in 2017” lists, including BBC´s ‘Sound of’ or MTV’s ‘Brand New’. Check out his collaboration with Chase & Status:
Bishop Briggs
Pop singer Bishop Briggs has been writing banger after banger, and this year she is heading to Coachella and performing all around the world.
Barns Courtney
Some could think he is from Nashville, but Barns Courtney comes all the way from England. You are going to like him, your father is going to like him and your grandpa too.
Dagny
Based in London but originally from Norway, Dagny is a fierce alternative-pop singer that will soon be headlining shows in different countries. If she is around your city, go see her live!
Mullally
Pop-soul singer from Norfolk. George Ergatoudis, former BBC Radio 1 Head of Music and now on Spotify, is a fan.

John Buckley
John Buckley is that guy from town, that busks in the city centre every weekend, starts getting better and better until one day you don’t see him on his usual spot because he got signed and is touring the country. John is just 19 but on to great things.
Julie Bergan
Julie is already a popular pop artist in Norway, her home country. She has released amazing tracks in the last couple of years and has great numbers on Spotify. If you are a fan of Tove Lo and Zara Larsson, head to her YouTube channel right now!
Alma
Looking to organise a party? Alma is the ultimate electronic-pop banger songwriter. All the way from Finland to your room.
Amanda Delara
Amanda is a singer, songwriter and record producer from Norway. She only has one song out but it is such a dope track that she had to be included in this list.
Tara Carioselli
Pop and r&b singer from London. As in Amanda’s case, Tara only has one song out. We hope she continues striking gold so we hear good news from her camp.
