Capital’s Summertime Ball 2018 took place on Saturday (June 9) and whilst the hottest summer party is over for another year, the memories from this year’s sensational event will live on for a lifetime.
Throughout the day we were treated to performances from some of pop’s biggest artists to the rising stars of tomorrow. We witnessed plenty of surprises and incredible collaborations, without forgetting the phenomenal vocals served by some of our favourite artists.
From start to finish, we take a look back at 11 of the best moments from Capital’s Summertime Ball 2018
1. Camila Cabello opens the show in spectacular fashion
Who better to open up this year’s Ball than one of the most in demand female artists of the moment, Camila Cabello? The songstress treated us to the likes of ‘Never Be The Same’, ‘Bad Things’, ‘Into It’ and ‘Consequences’, before finishing off with her gargantuan number one hit ‘Havana’. We are obsessed with the dance breakdown in the middle!
2. Anne-Marie puts us in the friend-zone
Armed with her signature sass, Anne-Marie set Wembley Stadium alight with her infectious set which included ‘Ciao Adios’, ‘Alarm’ and ‘2002’. Our favourite moment was her performance of the her Marshmello collab ‘FRIENDS’, which got 80,000 people singing along.
3. Demi Lovato surprises the STB crowd
Capital’s Summertime Ball is well known for pulling out a few surprises on the day. You better believe that we were shaken to the core when Demi Lovato appeared as a co-presenter on stage. Not only that, but the vocal powerhouse returned to perform ‘Solo’ with Clean Bandit and ‘Instruction’ with Jax Jones and Stefflon Don.
4. James Arthur rocks the stage
James Arthur returned to the Ball again this year and rocked the stage with some of his biggest hits, before treating fans to a performance of his latest single ‘You Deserve Better’. He may think that we deserve better than him but we disagree – he was incredible and left us wanting more.
5. Mabel and NOT3s bring the heat
Mabel was on great form during Summertime Ball, and the 80,000 strong crowd thoroughly enjoyed her set which included two appearances from NOT3s. He joined her to sing ‘My Lover’ and ‘Fine Line’, both of which showcased why they are two of the hottest rising artists in the industry right now.
6. Years & Years take us to Palo Santo
Amongst some of their biggest hits, trio Years & Years took the opportunity to take the Wembley crowd to Palo Santo by performing two tracks from their forthcoming sophomore album. In addition to ‘If You’re Over Me’, they delivered a spellbinding performance of ‘Sanctify’ which was one of our highlights of the day.
7. Rudimental, Jess Glynne and Dan Caplen talk about ‘These Days’
‘These Days’ spent eight weeks as the Big Top 40 number one, so it was a true delight to witness Rudimental, Jess Glynne and Dan Caplen bring the song to life on stage. Easily one of the biggest crowd singalongs of the day, it’s safe to say that the song is still a big favourite of ours.
8. Jonas Blue spoils us with special guests
Jonas Blue made a welcome return to the Summertime Ball stage this year and gave the Wembley crowd a set packed with hits and special guests. The amazing JP Cooper, Raye and Dakota came to perform ‘Perfect Strangers’, ‘By Your Side’, and ‘Fast Car’ respectively, but it was his final two guests who really drove the crowd wild. American duo Jack & Jack appeared to sing their collaboration ‘Rise’, whilst HRVY provided the vocals for the William Singe collab ‘Mama’.
9. Charlie Puth makes the crowd emotional
Whilst we enjoyed bopping along to all of our favourite hits throughout the day, sometimes it’s nice to slow things down and truly appreciate the beauty of a particular moment. During his stunning set, Charlie Puth performed ‘See You Again’ which gave us all the goosebumps. Not only was his vocal sensational, but the crowd sang along to every word and even lit up Wembley with their phones.
10. Rita Ora takes us ‘Anywhere’
As the penultimate act of the evening, Rita Ora put on an impressive set jam packed with hits including ‘Black Widow’, ‘For You’, ‘Lonely Together’, ‘Your Song’, and the newly released ‘Girls’. One of our highlights was her dreamy performance of ‘Anywhere’, where she showed off her vocals and served some eye catching moves.
11. Shawn Mendes is the perfect showman
Closing this year’s Summertime Ball was Canadian sensation Shawn Mendes. He might only be 19, but he proved that age is just a number and delivered a phenomenal set that he should be proud of. Not only did he ooze incredible stage presence, but he truly captivated the audience with his sensational vocals. We could have chosen any song from his set as a highlight, but the moment that sticks out the most for us is his insane vocal during ‘There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back’, in particular, THAT high note. 3:57 onwards, you’re very welcome.
