25 years on from their formation, S Club are officially back and about to head out on the road to celebrate all that they’ve achieved throughout the course of their incredible career!
Scheduled to kick off in Manchester on Thursday, October 12th, the highly anticipated ‘Good Times Tour’ will see the band visit Liverpool, Sheffield, Dublin, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Cardiff, Nottingham, and London, before wrapping up proceedings with an extra special show in Birmingham on Sunday, October 29th.
In what promises to be the pop event of the year, the group say of their upcoming gigs: “We’re so excited to be reuniting and performing together to celebrate 25 years of S Club – we can’t even believe it’s been so long! Music and friendship have always been at the core of everything that we’ve ever done, so we hope everyone can join us for one big party.”
S Club – These Are The Days (Official Music Video)
Created by former Spice Girls manager, Simon Fuller, S Club first rose to fame back in 1999 after starring in their own TV series, Miami 7.
Over the course of the next five years, the group would go onto release 12 singles, (including the UK number one hits ‘Bring It All Back’, ‘Never Had A Dream Come True’, ‘Don’t Stop Movin’ and ‘Have You Ever’), 4 studio albums, shoot 4 further seasons of their TV series, film one movie, and embark upon 3 sold out headline arena tours. To date the band have sold over 17 million records worldwide.
After calling it quits back in 2003, the supergroup reunited in 2014 for the hugely successful ‘Bring It All Back Tour’, before disbanding again shortly after to pursue individual projects.
With the start of the ‘Good Times Tour’ – named in memory of their late band member Paul Cattermole, who died suddenly in April of this year due to heart-related issues – now just DAYS away, here our 12 tracks we would LOVE to see S Club perform live…
Our Time Has Come
Co-written by the band, along with Mike Percy, Tim Lever and Eliot Kennedy (Spice Girls, Take That), ‘Our Time Has Come’ was originally released as the b-side to ’S Club Party’ back in the September of 1999.
With its uplifting message, and optimistic lyric serving as something of a positive affirmation for those dreaming of a happier, brighter tomorrow, this bouncy, summery sounding pop bop embodies the true essence and spirit of S Club!
To our knowledge (and please feel free to correct us if we’re wrong!) the only time the group ever performed the track live was during their 2001 S Club Party Tour – so could now be the perfect time for the quintet to revisit one of their most underrated tunes? We sure do hope so…
Down At Club S
Since launching onto the scene at the turn of the millennium, the members of S Club have ferociously championed the rights of their audience, and graciously welcomed fans into their community with open arms!
The pop supergroup express this sentiment and more on the rallying cry of ‘Down At Club S’ – a musical manifestation of their ethos and mantra that encourages people from all walks of life to forget their troubles, ignore their detractors, and live their best lives!
Can you imagine how crazy the vibe would be to have 20,000 people singing: “when you’re lonely head for the best club, the one and only, wonderful S CLUB!” We’ve got chills just thinking about it!
Do It ‘Till We Drop
This polished, and glistening electro-pop gem from the groups 2002 ‘Seeing Double’ album, sounds like no other S Club track – its pulsating beat, irresistible hook and EPIC key change guaranteed to get audiences out of their seats, and dancing up a storm anytime it’s performed!
Sunshine
As the title track of the groups third studio album, the glorious ‘Sunshine’ saw S Club explore and experiment with a more adult, contemporary pop style and sound.
Filled with heartwarming lyrics, soul-stirring melodies and unbridled amounts of joy, the emotive mid-tempo ballad sees the bands secret weapon Jon step up to the mic and take us all to church, wowing fans with his impressive vocal range and beautifully, soothing tone.
With its 90s R&B groove, incorporating elements of new jack swing and neo-soul, the distinctively American sounding ‘So Right’ sees S Club pay homage to some of the great pop acts that came before them! Featuring Bradley and Jo on lead vocals, the effortlessly cool track was originally released as the b-side to ‘Bring It All Back’ alongside the soaring power ballad ‘Hello Friend’.
Show Me Your Colours
A sultry, laid-back R&B tune with a KILLER chorus! ‘Show Me Colours’ sees Rachel take the lead, delivering a classy, and slick vocal performance of the songs cute, flirty, and fun lyrics.
Perhaps softer, and more mature in tone that previous S Club tracks, the groups beautifully layered harmonies sound utterly glorious set against a classic 00’s soundscape of luscious strings, acoustic guitars and sparse staccato beats.
Let Me Sleep
A tender, torched love song that this time provides each of the S Club boys the opportunity to further show off their impressive vocal chops, with the trio belting out a spectacular sequence of powerful riffs and runs throughout the songs moving middle 8, and final chorus.
Written by Kim Fuller, Mike Rose and Nick Foster, and first performed during an episode of the groups 2002 TV series Viva S Club, the haunting ballad finds the band reckon with feelings of grief and loneliness, as they long to be reunited with loved ones in the sacred sanctuary of their dreams.
It’s Alright
Another joyous and uplifting, life affirming pop banger taken from 2001’s double platinum selling ‘Sunshine’, that sees the gang once again champion the importance of friendship, and holding onto hope during times of hardships and struggle.
“Leave all your troubles far behind…” the inspiring seven sing with conviction on the tracks electrifying chorus, before doubling down on their defiant message adding: “don’t let anybody tell you how to live your life!”
It’s A Feel Good Thing
A pulsating, and energetic salsa-inspired Latino pop BOP that evokes memories of the summer of 1999, when seven fresh faced teens, and twenty-somethings staged a slightly chaotic performance of the party track during a (fictional) flight to America in the first ever episode of Miami 7!
Bring The House Down
A favourite amongst fans, and one of few out and out pop tracks featured on the groups edgier, urban-influenced second album ‘7’.
‘Bring The House Down’ – produced by pop music legends Absolute (Spice Girls) – blends 1960s, shimmering soulful grooves with 90s pop beats to create an infectious dance-floor-filler complete with big choruses and killer hooks!
Straight From The Heart
Though perhaps most recognised by the masses for their optimistic, upbeat dance tunes, that unashamedly celebrate the importance of friendship and always maintaining a strong sense of self-belief, it should too be dually noted that S Club also delivered some of the best contemporary pop ballads of the late 90’s / early 00’s.
Case in point, the often forgotten and criminally overlooked ’Straight From The Heart’ – a romantic, and heartfelt slow jam that lyrically pays homage to those special, one of a kind types of love that have the ability to change a person, for the better, forever.
Featuring yet another accomplished, and mature vocal performance by Jo, we believe this could have been the bands third consecutive festive No.1 in the U.K. had it been released back in the winter of 2002.
Hope For The Future
Serving as the closing track on the groups debut album ’S Club’, and featured in episode 12 of Miami 7 – the one where the Paradise Hotel gets shut down by the Department of Health so the gang head off to the Miami Seaquarium to swim with dolphins – ‘Hope For The Future’ sees the S Clubbers harbour a desire to turn back the clock and rekindle a relationship with an old flame.
Though perhaps a tad melancholy in its message, the songs uplifting, sing-along chorus manages to override any feelings of sadness or sorrow, resulting in yet another sun-drenched slice of anthemic pop!
