23 years ago the first ever Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day took place. On August 25th, 2018, the 23rd Annual Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day took place at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The event celebrated the 50th anniversary of the US Open as well as Arthur Ashe and his legacy. Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day and USTA’s Net Generation help fulfill Arthur’s mission of promoting the sport of tennis to young people and continue Arthur’s vision of instilling the values of humanitarianism, leadership and academic excellence.
To help celebrate, tennis pros played tennis with children as well as live music! This year included 23-time Grand Slam Champion Serena Williams, defending US Open Champion and World Number One Rafael Nadal, 2018 Wimbledon Champions and past US Open Champions Novak Djokovic and Angelique Kerber, and 2018 US Open Finalist Madison Keys. Musical performers included Echosmith who performed their hit song “Over My Head.” Other acts included multilingual music sensations who won ABC’s Boy Band last summer, In Real Life. In Real Life just celebrated one year and they told CelebMix what one memorable moment was for them this past year. “There’s so many moments that I can’t just pick one. There have been so many monumental moments that have happened for us as a band and for us individually too. That’s what we are really grateful for.” In Real Life performed their hits “Tonight Belongs To You” and “Tattoo.” Other acts included CNCO, Kim Petras as well as up and coming AJ Mitchell. Mitchell just released his latest EP and told CelebMix what his favorite song is. “Hopeful, that’s the title of my EP. The message behind that is always being hopeful with releasing new music, staying hopeful that people will enjoy it and listen to it.” Mitchell said that fans might be able to except a tour coming soon as well. “Maybe a tour. I’m doing a 30 day radio promo tour, so I’m going to a lot of different cities.” There was also a special performance of “Shine” by students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the entire cast.
The 23rd Annual Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day was hosted by television and film star Skai Jackson and Interscope recording artist Alex Aiono co-hosted along with Radio Disney’s Morgan.
