5 Reasons You Need to Watch ‘Stranger Things’ Right Now

Netflix has done it again. The newest edition to their ever-expanding list of hit original TV shows, Stranger Things, has become a viral sensation since being released on July 15, just a few short weeks ago.

There’s a reason this 1980s supernatural mystery drama has everyone obsessed. Five reasons, actually:

1. It has that familiar, retro 80s feel.

The show stars, from left to right: Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers; Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers; and Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler.

Set in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana in November 1983, Stranger Things makes us nostalgic for an earlier time. From old-time fashion, hairstyles, and mannerisms, to John Hughes-esque humor and Steven Spielberg-esque drama, the show effortlessly transports us back to the cinema of the 1980s.

2. It follows a unique, unfathomable mystery.

The show focuses on a couple of misfit kids trying to solve the mystery of their friend’s disappearance. While this sounds like a familiar storyline, the supernatural aspect of the show adds a dark element, as the characters are faced with surprising twists and horrific turns at every corner.

3. It stars some fresh, incredible talent.

The show-stopping young cast includes, from left to right: Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair; Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderso; Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler; and Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven.

Finding talented and believable child actors is always a challenge, but Stranger Things went above and beyond with their incredible casting. From Gaten Matarazzo, who plays the lovable young dork Dustin Henderson, to Millie Bobby Brown, a 12 year-old who stars as the strange but undeniably important young girl Eleven, the show’s cast is brand-new and evidently brilliant. The series also stars the iconic Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, the mother of the young boy who has gone missing.

4. It mashes up TV’s favorite genres.

From high school relationship problems to a supernatural murder mystery, Stranger Things brings together many different genres to create a masterful feel-good thriller. Whether you like playful dramas, enticing mysteries, or chilling horrors, this show has something for everyone to enjoy.

5. It only has eight episodes.

Everyone loves a good Netflix binge-watch, but going through Stranger Things won’t take up much of your time. With only eight episodes in its first season, it’s easy to watch quickly, and it leaves you satisfied yet still wanting more.
