8 Years of Olly Murs: A Recap

It is incredibly hard to believe that on the 25 June 2009, eight years ago, Olly Murs attended an audition that would change his life forever. He auditioned for ‘The X Factor,’ performing ‘Superstition’ in front of Judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh. He won over not only the Judges but also the British public with his dance moves, vocals and personality. Simon described him as being ‘very, very, very cool.’

Fast forward eight years and Olly Murs has become one of the most successful contestants to emerge from ‘The X Factor’ despite not winning the show, finishing in second place.

Following his time on the show, he released debut single ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’ which went straight to the Number 1 position. He went on to release several further singles and achieved additional Number 1 success with ‘Heart Skips A Beat’ and ‘Dance With Me Tonight.’

Back in 2010, his self-titled debut album was released. His legion of loyal fans proved their dedication once again, with the album achieving the biggest week one album sales for a debut album in that year. The album has gone on to receive double platinum certification.

His second album, titled ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’ became his first Number 1 album. From the album came further success – two Number 1 singles.

His third album, titled ‘Right Place Right Time’ was another highlight in Olly Murs’ career. Six singles were released from the album, with ‘Troublemaker’ becoming his fourth Number 1.

Fourth album ‘Never Been Better’ was released in November 2014 and gave Olly yet another Number 1 album. ‘Up’ (featuring Demi Lovato), ‘Seasons’ and ‘Beautiful To Me’ were just some of the singles to be released from that album.

His fifth and most recent album titled ’24 Hrs’ was released in 2016 and was another key achievement for Olly Murs, with the achievement of yet another Number 1 album. This album brings us to his latest single: ‘Unpredictable’ – with the new version featuring a duet with ‘The X Factor’ 2015 winner, Louisa Johnson. You can watch the video for the single below:
