The American network ABC has been planning a remake of the classic movie Dirty Dancing for years now. They began searching for the lead roles about one year ago. They have now announced that Abigail Breslin, who is currently starring on Scream Queens, has been cast as Baby Houseman. So far, no other cast members have been announced.
19-year-old singer and actress Abigail Breslin already has an impressive resume. She was cast in her first film, Signs, at age five, but she is perhaps mostly known for her movie, Little Miss Sunshine, which gave Breslin her breakthrough when she was 10 years old. That film helped her become the fourth youngest actress to be nominated in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category at the Academy Awards. She also received a nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Breslin is now starring as Chanel #5 in the horror-comedy show Scream Queens on Fox.
It has been revealed that the new version of Dirty Dancing will be around three hours long. Wayne Blair, who is behind The Sapphires, is going to direct the remake. The original movie was written by Eleanor Bergstein, who also wrote Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage, a stage musical adapted in 2004. Bergstein has been confirmed as an executive producer alongside Allison Shearmur.
