WHAT. A. VOICE. Global singing sensation Adele launched her hugely anticipated world tour in Belfast on Monday night, much to the excitement of many fans who, on a mildly cold and bitter night in the city, got the perfect mood booster that was spending 90 minutes in the company of such a talented young woman.
In her first outing since 2011, the Brit award-winner emerged from underneath the stage at the SSE Arena in front of 10,000 screaming fans to sing her heart out in her seamless set-list that included the perfect combination of her impressive catalogue of emotional ballads and upbeat numbers, both of which reflect perfectly on the themes of love, nostalgia and more. With a good mix of tracks from her chart topping albums 19, 21 and her recent record breaker 25, fans were left with their money’s worth.
Looking stunning in a full length glittering gown, she started the show with number one single “Hello” and then made her way through the crowd to the centre stage. Images of Belfast’s greatest attributes such as the City Hall and the Harland and Wolff cranes generated squeals from the crowd whilst the London lass belted out “Hometown Glory”.
Adele picked some colourful language to share how she nervous she had been feeling ahead of her first ever arena show. The crowd enjoyed her swearing, hilarious descriptions and general down-to-earth banter.
Ahead of performing Oscar-winning track “Skyfall”, Adele spoke about her appreciation of Leonardo DiCaprio (a love that we all all agree with) and how she visited the Titanic centre during the previous weekend. When she got round to performing the James Bond theme, her rich vocals sounded absolutely flawless.
A stripped down version of “Don’t Remember” followed. Then, after giving the audience “the 411” about her recent trip to the city’s zoo, she performed “Make Me Feel Your Love” which provided an opportunity for the audience to sing-a-long, as did the gorgeous “Someone Like You.”
What shocked the entire audience was that they were then treated with a Leap Year proposal by a brave woman in the crowd (no prizes for guessing what he said…) and of course, the obligatory encore that all music acts love to provide.
The gig ended with the notoriously private star sharing images from her family photo albums on the big screen whilst she sang “When We Were Young” and an incredible version of “Rolling In The Deep”.
Adele, born Adele Adkins, is part of the uber famous group of stars where no surname is required and while she is worth more than most of us can even dream of, she simply describes herself as being “a working mother.”
She’s back in action again in Belfast before gigging in Dublin and then the tour is off to London, where tickets have been reported to be reaching heights of £24,000 (eek!)
If you’ve got tickets to see the British beauty perform then you’re without a doubt in for a real treat. Adele is fun, full of charisma and a definite class act.
