Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and online personality Annie O’Malley introduces her latest single/lyric video, “Celebrations & Obsessive Thaughts,” from her forthcoming sophomore album set to drop in early 2024.
O’Malley shares, “My sophomore album is just around the corner, and I’m excited to share another single that is by far one of my favorites from the songwriting and production journey this year. As a lot of doors klose, new ones open and I’m thankful for the chance to share this new collection of music with you all.”
“Celebrations & Obsessive Thaughts” follows on the heels of “Klose the Door” and “11th Hour,” which together amassed more than 800,000 streams on Spotify. With over 2.1 million Spotify streams, 190,000 listeners, 100,000 YouTube views, and 1.4 million likes on TikTok, O’Malley is a tour de force.
Written by O’Malley, “Celebrations & Obsessive Thaughts” was produced by Nydge and mixed by JJ Catalyst. Blending elements of hyperpop and drum and bass, along with lyrical flair, O’Malley’s sound escapes the inertia of today’s run-of-the-mill music.
Originally from a small town near Chicago, O’Malley utilizes music to explore the intricacies of her inner child, delving into topics such as birthday parties, ice cream, love, and loss, while simultaneously sticking out her tongue at the execs who told her she was too emotional and overly dramatic. For O’Malley, sensitivity and expression are superpowers.
After a brief, swirling intro, “Celebrations & Obsessive Thaughts” rolls into a dark, throbbing rhythm highlighted by deep thrumming tones, followed by elevating to gleaming, shimmering surfaces of plush pop flavors. O’Malley’s vocals range from low, whispery tones to gliding, melodic timbres, imbuing the lyrics with dream-like colors and deliciously alluring tones.
Annie O’Malley has it going on! “Celebrations & Obsessive Thaughts” hums with iridescent textures and jewel-toned pop opulence.
