Ariana Grande made a triumphant return on Friday (April 20) with her brand new single, ‘No Tears Left To Cry’.
The track is the vocal powerhouse’s first release following the heartbreaking terrorist bombing which claimed the lives of 22 people outside her show at Manchester Arena in May 2017.
After teasing the song on social media by using rain and teardrop emojis and wearing a sweatshirt with the song title stylised in an upside down typeface, Ariana dropped ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ at midnight.
The opening bars of the song have a gospel feel to them, alluding to a ballad of epic proportions. However, after around 20 seconds, an uplifting beat kicks in, turning ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ into an infectious pop banger.
Despite addressing the hard times, Ariana radiates optimism throughout the song, stating that she “‘ain’t got no tears left to cry”.
Right now, I’m in a state of mind
I wanna be in like all the time
Ain’t got no tears left to cry
So I’m pickin’ it up, pickin’ it up
I’m lovin’, I’m livin’, I’m pickin’ it up
Ariana also emphasises positivity and love instead of giving into fear in the second verse, stating: “We’re way too fly to partake in all this hate, we out here vibin’, we vibin’, we vibin'”. The song exudes the same strength as the songstress showed the world during the One Love Manchester benefit concert and is the perfect first release from her new era.
In addition to releasing ‘No Tears Left To Cry’, Ariana also dropped the music video for the song. Directed by Dave Meyers, the trippy visual sees the songstress defy gravity whilst showcasing a variety of stunning looks.
Ariana also pays a subtle yet poignant tribute to the lives lost in Manchester as a worker bee, the symbol of Manchester, can be seen flying on screen at the end of the video.
