Arlene Zelina is an Australian urban pop singer/songwriter who started her career recording cover songs on YouTube. She has even been featured on Ellentube.com by Ellen DeGeneres.
She recently released her own single, “Dream of Me.”
CelebMix talked to Zelina about the single and her career.
What was your inspiration/ message for “Dream of Me?”
I really wanted a song that could that could be a confidence booster to women! It’s about taking charge of your imagination and to confidently and unapologetically explore the idea of lust!
How is this different from other songs you have done?
This has a little more of an R&B vibe to it compared to my previous songs. I grew up listening to slow jams so it was exciting to actually create one.
How did you get started covering songs on YouTube and did you ever think you would blow up like you did?
I had no idea! One of the first cover videos I ever created was ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. It was a video montage of my friends from that year and I never expected anyone but my friends and family to watch. I released another cover and realized that people I didn’t know were watching (which was so exciting). It just keeps growing from there!
Any plans for more original music?
Absolutely! More to come in the new year. This is just the beginning!
Would you make a Christmas album? Original or covers?
That’s definitely something on my bucket list. I love Christmas so much so I would LOVE to be able to do a whole Christmas album. I’d do some traditional covers and maybe sprinkle in an original or 2. I just covered ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ – that’s one of my favorites.
Is there anything else you would like to add or tell your fans?
I’m so grateful to have the support of so many people. It honestly means the world. There is so much more to come in 2019! I’m so excited to be able to show you what I have been working on and involve you more in my journey. It’s going to be the best year yet.
