This guide contains everything you need to know about the Belarusian-born Norwegian singer Alexander Rybak.

    When is his birthday?

    13 May 1986

What is his most popular song?

Although everyone is listening to his new Eurovision track ‘That’s How You Write a Song’ at the moment, we cannot deny that his most popular song of all time is ‘Fairytale’.

What else should I know about Alexander Rybak?

Alexander Rybak is known for being a skilled violin player, which he started learning at age 5. In addition to the violin, he also plays the piano, guitar, and hardingfele, which is a traditional stringed instrument used originally to play the music of Norway.

Alexander represented Norway in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow, Russia with the song ‘Fairytale’, which he had written and composed himself. He won the contest with 387 points, which is the highest score ever achieved in the history of Eurovision under the old voting system.

Following his Eurovision success, his 2009 debut album, Fairytales, charted in the top 20 in nine European countries, including a number one positions in both Norway and Russia. The singer has released four studio albums and seven singles so far in his career.

Although this is the first time since 2009 that Alexander is returning to Eurovision as a contestant, he has made appearances at the show in 2012 and 2016, where he played the violin during both interval acts.
