This Artist 101 guide contains everything you need to know about one of Italy’s representatives for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, Ermal Meta.

Who is Ermal Meta?

Ermal Meta is an Italian singer-songwriter who was born in Fier, Albania. Meta later moved to Italy at the age of 13 and resided in the Bari area of Southern Italy. The Italian singer-songwriter first found his feet in the music industry in 2006 when he debuted as a guitarist for an upcoming Italian band called Ameba4. Meta later became the frontman, lead singer and main songwriter for another Italian band, this time called La Fame di Camilla. The band was signed to Universal Music and had a run from 2007 with three studio album released until they decided to split in 2013.

Meta later ventured out as a solo artist after finding mild success writing for other artists. Ermal Meta’s debut solo album, ‘Umano’ was released in February 2016 with a follow-up and third album being released in 2017 and 2018 respectively. The latter two albums saw commercial success for the singer-songwriter as they both peaked at number one in the Italian album chart. One of his most notable singles, ‘Vietato morire’ peaked at number seven on the singles chart and was certified platinum by the FIMI.

Meta was also the recipient of the Best Italian Act award at the MTV EMA Awards 2018.

When is his birthday?

Ermal Meta was born on 20th April 1981.

What is Ermal Meta’s most popular song?

Despite the before mentioned platinum single ‘Vietato morire’, there is no doubt his 2018 Eurovision Song Contest entry with Fabrizio Moro, ‘Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente‘ will be his most popular song due to further European exposure.
