Asher Monroe debuted his new video for his song ‘Sail Away.” It’s Asher’s most personal and emotive release to date.
In July this year, Asher released his debut album “Inner Warrior” CelebMix was lucky enough to have a chat with him at the time, where he told us the album reflected his own struggles and how you should never give up on things you love and believe in. (You can read the full interview here. )
Having taken complete creative control and written, recorded, and produced every track on Inner Warrior, Asher looked again at older tracks that were reworked for the album including “Sail On.”
“Sail On” was originally released in 2015, it tells the heartbreaking and emotional story of the loss of a loved one.
“As I look up at the stars
I hope you see me as I see a long brother
You got my weight
I can hear you calling
Calling out my name
And oh, how I missed you
But I still found my way
You blessed me with the calling
To heal this world with all my pain”
The highly emotive video for ‘Sail Away’ was shot on location in Sarajevo, Bosnia and directed by award-winning director Haris Dubica.
Asher shared with the Huffington Post that the track was written for the sister of a young Bosnian soldier killed by Serbian forces on his 21st birthday in 1995, only eight days before the war ended.
Speaking exclusively to the Huffington Post he said:
“His sister is a refugee who escaped the war and had to live with the pain of losing her brother. She spent her whole life trying to fill the void of losing him, trying to making sense out of her pain by helping others. Even though we decided to not make the video about the war, we still chose to shoot the video in Bosnia with a Bosnian director and cast in his memory.”
Asher is super talented and one of the nicest guys CelebMix have ever had the pleasure of speaking with. He is the musical director of the drinks company Neuro, as well as being a co-runner of D Empire Entertainment along with the founder of both Neuro and D Empire Diana Jenkins.
The video was an absolute revelation to us. It shows his fans a new side to him. An incredibly raw and vulnerable side which makes us just want to hug him and the sister who lost her brother, as nobody should have to lose a loved one in such awful circumstances.
