The wait for new Au/Ra music is over! Today the green-haired 16-year-old releases her first new music of 2019 with latest single ‘Assassin’.
2018 was quite the year for Ibiza-born Au/Ra. Hit single ‘Panic Room’ made its way around clubs worldwide thanks to a CamelPhat facelift, whilst October’s X Games was an exquisite piece of dark electropop that was named as one of CelebMix’s Top EPs of 2018.
Keeping fans in suspense with no new music released so far in 2019, today puts an end to their waiting. ‘Assassin’ is another moody Au/Ra flick that packs a punch. Quirky lyrics and a wisdom far beyond her youth, it’s another confident step from an artist with terrifying potential.
“You hear footsteps when no-one’s coming, but you keep running”, Au/Ra opens before following up with, “You know you’re your own assassin […] it’s your back you’ve been stabbing”. Fast emerging as a lyricist with a knack of speaking for Generation Z, having already tackled topics such as anxiety in ‘Panic Room’, the effect of technology on relationships in ‘Emoji’ and the celebrity world in ‘X Games’, ‘Assassin’ sees Au/Ra point listeners to stop putting themselves down.
Speaking to CelebMix last year, Au/Ra said: “My age gives me a different perspective, I guess I’m really aware of certain things. In music there are too many situations where people talk about things that aren’t really necessary… there’s enough songs about going to a party and getting drunk. I think it’s great to talk about things that can actually help people and are relatable.”
