The 73rd British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAS) took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London tonight, honouring excellence in both British and international film from over the last 12 months.
Despite psychological thriller Joker receiving the most nominations, with 11 nods in total, it was Sam Mendes epic war film 1917 that proved to be the real winner on the night picking up 7 awards, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, and Best Director for Mendes.
However it wasn’t all bad news for the Joker, with the Todd Philipps directed movie winning 3 awards including Leading Actor for Joaquin Phoenix, Original Score, and Casting.
Other big winners on the night included Renée Zellweger for Leading Actress, Brad Pitt for Supporting Actor, Parasite for Film Not In The English Language and Best Original Screenplay and Michael Ward for the EE Rising Star Award.
