    Barbie Gets a New Look

“Imagination comes in all shapes and sizes”

Barbie announced earlier this morning that they were proud to present three more body types for their new dolls. The new body types that they will be available are called curvy, tall, and petite. According to the company, these newer Barbies will have many different body types, skin tones, eye colors, and hairstyles. They will be introducing 33 new dolls by the end of this year. From the original Barbie that was released in 1955, the company has come a long way in their attempts to include diversity into their brand.

Over the past few years, there have been many criticisms towards Barbie and the company’s unrealistic standard for women’s beauty and their influence on younger generation’s body image. Their expanding of their line is what they are using to battle the public’s negative reactions to their product.  Barbie’s spokeswoman, Michelle Chidoni, says that “the product line to be a better reflection of what girls see in the world around them,” and the senior vice president of Barbie, Evelyn Mazzocco, says that “We believe we have a responsibility to girls and parents to reflect a broader view of beauty.”

Most of the reactions on social media have been positive, including a few mothers saying that they are now proud to purchase Barbie dolls for their children. Currently, the dolls are only able to be purchased online but they will be hitting stores on March 1st. To watch Barbie video announcing their new dolls, you can go visit their website and even get an inside look at the process of creating these new dolls.
