If, like us, you’ve been busy (re)-binge watching Gavin and Stacey ahead of its highly anticipated Christmas special this year, then you might have stumbled across a teaser for the forthcoming episode.
The craft so-and-so’s at the BBC have added a sneak peek of the Christmas special to the end of series three finale on BBC iPlayer and we’re not going to lie to you, it looks absolutely crackin’.
The teaser sets the scene for Christmas Day, with Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon) getting flustered in the kitchen to the soundtrack of Wizzard’s ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’.
Now we know that Bryn doesn’t have a great track record of dealing with the pressure of organising things (remember Gwen’s surprise birthday party?), so to say that things are a little chaotic is an understatement.
With plans going hay-wire, Bryn calls for help from “Gwen, Jason, anyone” using his walkie-talkie, before he ends up burning his hand and breaking some dishes.
Stacey (Joanna Page) and Nessa (Ruth Jones) run in from the other room to find out what all the commotion is about, and find a broken Bryn trying to clear up a floor full of mess.
“Stacey, would you kindly inform everyone that dinner will be ever so slightly delayed?”, Bryn exclaims, whilst Stacey and Nessa look on pitifully.
Dinner might be delayed, but this very special episode is almost upon us, and will air on BBC1 this Christmas Day. It follows a nine year hiatus since Gavin and Stacey’s series three finale.
Back in May, Ruth and co-creator James Corden, who plays Smithy, revealed that they had been working on a one off Christmas special, and delighted fans across the country with the knowledge that we would finally be able to revisit the characters of Gavin and Stacey.
In a press release, James and Ruth stated: “Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like. And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one hour special.
“We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy. We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen.”
We’ve often wondered what happened to all of our favourite characters over the years and we have high hopes that this Christmas special will answer all of our questions and be just as iconic as its original Christmas special from 2008.
