Ben J. Pierce, dubbed as “Benny” in his music, was only 15 years old when he released his first single “Little Game“, a powerful song addressing the gender norms and stereotypes of society. For most, Pierce is best known for his creative content on YouTube. His channel has over 179,000 subscribers and features videos ranging from humorous skits to makeup to social awareness to collaborations. Pierce also has a passion for acting, and recently played Smiley in the second season of go90’s show Guidance. Although 2016 has been a great year full of Pierce’s YouTube and acting achievements, music continues to play a big role in his life.
“(Boys Will Be Boys) was sort of an accident,” Pierce said in a recent YouNow livestream. “I was sitting at the piano one night and wrote the “’cause if boys will be boys” part, and I was like, I really need to do this.”
For Pierce, “Boys Will Be Boys” is a song about toxic masculinity and the effects it can have on a person. However, Pierce emphasizes that the song can mean something different and unique for every person. With its smooth vocals, melodic tones, and catchy drumbeats, “Boys Will Be Boys” will surely be your favorite song for weeks to come. You’ll also undoubtedly fall in love with the single’s impactful music video, which was filmed and edited by filmmaker and YouTuber Chase vs Everything.
“It’s kind of about taking that phrase “boys will be boys” and turning it on its head,” Pierce said. “I’m really happy with how it turned out.”
