So far, 2016 has been a blast for the music industry – both on charts as well as in quality. But to focus more on the debuting side, Beyoncé and Ariana Grande are amongst the highest female debutantes of 2016.
Beyoncé leads the list with her album, Lemonade securing 653k units so far. Followed by the singer is Ariana, with her Dangerous Woman acing 175k units. Then comes Meghan Trainor marking a gracious amount of 106k with her album, Thank You. The fourth in line is Gwen Stefani’s This Is What The Truth Feels Like at 84k units.
We here at CelebMix, reported about the records broken by Beyoncé’s Lemonade. But now the buzz seems to be that the album is still #1 on iTunes in the USA – despite being released five weeks ago. On the other hand, Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman debuts at #2 with 175,000 album units in the US. Views by Drake earned 14,000 units more, and Megan Trainor’s Thank You continues to keep itself in the race.
And if the tea wasn’t hot enough, let us tell you all about Beyoncé and Rihanna both breaking records this year for highest (Lemonade) and lowest (Anti) female debuts of 2016.
During its release, Anti debuted on Billboard’s 200 at #27 with just 460 copies. The tremendous promotion of the album had everyone setting great expectations for its business. However, after the release, Riri’s album could not go beyond the #10 position.
But despite the business, it is heartwarming to see such strong lady public-figures leading the music industry with their talent and grace. Whether it is Rihanna, Beyoncé, Ariana or Gwen, it’s hopeful seeing such inspirational ladies in the front row of musicians.
It is for sure a good sign that we’re moving towards excellence within the industry!
