‘Outer Space’ is the seventeenth song on 5SOS’s sophomore album, Sounds Good Feels Good. It is followed on the same track by ‘Carry On’. ‘Outer Space’ was written by 5SOS, John Feldmann and Simon Wilcox.
The song instantly became a favorite among the fans for its different sound. The song’s different tempos throughout mixed with the deep lyrics gives for a roller coaster effect while listening to it.
Before we get started, we would like to state that songs are down to interpretation, and this is just one of them. The meaning we think is behind this song is not fact, and we would hope that you enjoy reading it; possibly taking inspiration, or looking at the song in a different way to before.
I can still taste the ocean like it was today.
You said please keep on holding your hands
and the rain, it came too soon, I will wait for you, to love me again
This lyric in ‘Outer Space’ is talking about missing someone, longing for them is one of the most heartbreaking feelings. Referring to the ocean as a person, being able to remember the feeling of having them there with you. The memory of holding their hand, and having that taken away- sometimes too soon. This could be referring to a past relationship or a loved one who is no longer with you. Longing for them and waiting for them to come back, no matter how long it takes.
I guess I was running from something, I was running back to you
Running away from the fear of being without them, running for them. No matter what gets in your way, not stopping for anything. Love will make you do crazy things, make you crazy enough to stop at nothing to get them back.

The darkest night never felt so bright with you by my side
When you find someone who makes you darkest nights bright, and when you’re down they lift you back up, it’s something special. It makes you feel as if you’re not alone, like you’re stronger with them by your side.
My outer space tattoo??@5SOS thank you for everything?

Nothing like the rain, nothing like the rain. When you’re in outer space, when you’re in outer space.
This lyric seems confusing, like it doesn’t make sense. When you look deeper, it’s actually quite beautiful. When you’re in outer space, you see nothing you’re familiar with nothing that resembles normalcy. Seeing that person that makes you feel whole, that brings you up when you’re down and the one you miss more than you thought possible is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever laid your eyes on. Seeing them makes your heart fuller than ever before.
Love me like you did, love me like you did
I’ll give you anything, I’ll give you anything
The vocals and lyrics on this part of the song are so perfectly paired. Both sound so vulnerable, like their heart is ripped in two. Begging for it to be put back together, willing to do whatever it takes.
