BLACKPINK’s Lisa has marked yet another huge milestone in her solo career. On Saturday, May 25, her “MONEY” performance video officially surpassed one billion views on YouTube. The achievement makes her just the second female K-pop soloist to exceed that figure on the platform.
The first to do so was none other than BLACKPINK’s Jennie. Her debut solo single, aptly titled “SOLO,” hit the milestone on Thursday, Feb. 29. The achievement also made her the second K-pop soloist overall to reach the number after PSY did so in December 2012 with his viral hit “Gangnam Style.”
Although the “MONEY” performance video hitting one billion views is impressive enough on its own, what makes the feat even more noteworthy is the fact the track wasn’t promoted as a single.
The song was released alongside BLACKPINK’s Lisa’s debut single album, Lalisa, in September 2021. The record featured “Lalisa” as the lead single and “MONEY” as a b-side track. Despite the latter not getting the same amount of promotions, it became just as successful as “Lalisa” after going viral online. Since it attracted so much attention from fans and the general public, “MONEY” reached No. 10 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 90 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it an organic success.
Years later, the track continues to pull in big numbers. In September 2023, “MONEY” also surpassed one billion streams on Spotify. The feat helped BLACKPINK’s Lisa earn a Guinness World Record for having the first K-pop track to reach the milestone on the platform.
Fans couldn’t be prouder of everything Lisa has accomplished as both a member of BLACKPINK and a solo artist. They can’t wait to see what she does next!
