Here’s another story adding greatness to The Great Britain; The Itunes list of best selling albums worldwide for 2015 has been released, and British artists have claimed four out of the top five positions!
In at number one, and therefore the biggest selling album on iTunes of 2015, was Adele’s third studio album 25. The second place position has been bagged by Coldplay with A Head Full of Dreams, and the fourth spot taken by One Direction’s fifth album Made in The A.M…and with 3 out of 4 members of One Direction being British, that definitely counts. Rounding up the top five is The Beatles’ 1..
The only spot in the top five not taken by a British artists is Justin Bieber’s album Purpose, which came in at the number 3 spot on the iTunes worldwide album chart.
It is quite a moment of pride for all of the artists, but it’s a particularly big deal for Adele and One Direction to have bagged such esteemed places in the chart. Adele’s 25 is her first album after a three-year hiatus during which she became a mother. On the other hand, this is One Direction’s final album before they embark on their own hiatus, which is said to be lasting anywhere between 1 year and 2 years (and although rumours suggest they might never reform, Louis recently caused speculation that it would last only 18 months!). It’s also the bands first album since they lost a member, after Zayn Malik quit the band mid-tour earlier in the year.
Combine that with the fact that it’s been a turbulent few years for Justin Bieber, a long break for Coldplay (and a divorce for frontman Chris Martin), and the fact that The Beatles haven’t been a band for 45 years, there’s reason to celebrate all round!
Celebmix congratulates these artists for their admirable achievements!
