Camila Cabello has dropped her second single called ‘I Have Questions’, just two days after her solo debut with ‘Crying in the Club’. We already heard a nearly two-minute long teaser of the track on Friday at the beginning of the ‘Crying in the Club’ music video.
‘I Have Questions’ is a track dripping with raw emotions and haunting harmonies backed with somber strings. The pain in Camila’s voice is evident, especially with impactful lyrics such as ‘counting wounds and trying to numb them all’ and the simple but heartbreaking refrain of ‘why don’t you care’. The song ends with frantic whispers of several questions, like ‘how do fix it’ and ‘is it my fault’.
The track is said to be one of the most emotional songs on Camila’s upcoming album The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving, which she described as “the story of my journey from darkness into light, from a time when I was lost to a time when I found myself again.” The album is set to release later this year, in September 2017.
In an Instagram post from last week, Camila explained more about the story behind ‘I Have Questions’. The song was written last year in a hotel bathroom while she was on tour with Fifth Harmony. At the time, Camila was “completely broken” and “in the kind of pain that’s uncomfortable to talk about”. She describes the single as “a secret burning on my tongue.”
Camila also opened up about her new track in an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1. In this snippet, she describes the recording process as “the first time that I was really talking about the feelings and emotion I was having in that song”. She also explained that ‘I Have Questions’ was originally supposed to be an interlude before she decided to write the second verse of the song two weeks later. The full interview will be released tomorrow at 10 am PT.
