Camila Cabello has been announced as Cybersmiler of the Month for April by leading online cyberbullying and positivity charity, Cybersmile.
It’s the second time Camila has been awarded the accolade. She was previously awarded it in July 2021.
Camila has a huge platform and regularly uses it to speak out about causes close to her heart and about subjects she knows affect her dedicated fanbase.
This time she was given the accolade for opening up about body image and sharing details of her personal thoughts and experiences.
She shared details of her personal experiences with body image and self-esteem after struggling with the pressures of the entertainment business and the intrusive nature of the paparazzi in her personal life.
With so much expectation on appearance and ‘looking perfect’ in the public eye, she recently used her Instagram to reflect on the culture surrounding body image that’s impacting young people’s self-esteem and mental health.
Camila also recently attended the Met Gala where she teamed up with designer Prabal Gurung, who use their designs to inspire others. Her posts about the outfit read ” was so proud to have gone with you last night. You said something to me that I feel like is so representative of who you are. You said, “It’s never just about you, it’s about making it easier for the people who come after you.” Thank you for using your work to shine a light on the positive change you want to see in the world. Feminism, body positivity, sustainability, pro-immigration and values of joy, colourfulness and kindness.” In other posts about the outfit, she went on to say “The Gilded Age was a time of industrialization, economic growth and cultural values of materialism. In a time where people were wearing the most expensive gold and jewelry and fabrics, I wanted to capture the irony of that in 2022 as we’re facing the climate crisis. I wanted to do something that was sustainable and up-cycled and covered with flowers because I feel like we’re remembering now that the most valuable things are the finite resources in a natural world.”
In being awarded the cybersmiler of the month award Camila joins the likes of Selena Gomez, Kristen Bell, Britney Spears and John Legend who all use their platforms positively.
