Today is a significant day for themusic industry. It was in the year 1998 when rapper Lauryn Hill debuted on the Billboard 100 chart with her single “Doo Wop (That Thing)”.

    20 Years Later

Twenty years later, Cardi B has become the first solo female rapper after Hill to top the charts. She achieved this major feat with her single “Bodak Yellow”. Upon its release, the track garnered attention globally and was termed as a single to lookout for.

On YouTube, the music video has got over 173M views which is an major achievement in itself. Debuting at number 85, no-one expected that Cardi B would grab the top spot so soon.

What’s so special about the event?

    As reported by Vox,

“the way Billboard calculates its Hot 100 rankings comes down to Nielsen’s measurements of streaming plays, sales, and crucially, radio play. “Bodak Yellow” exploded in all three areas almost immediately; in just the past week, Billboard reports that the song’s streaming plays increased by 14 percent. As a result, 11 weeks later, “Bodak Yellow” has knocked Swift out of the top spot.”

Cardi B is one of the few artists who have been able to create this moment without any assistance from any other artist. Moreover, she hasn’t released her album yet. Her first album will be released in October.

    Reciprocating Love With Sweetest Gesture
