Keith Urban may have left Wednesday evening’s CMT Awards with the highest honor, but it was his collaborator Carrie Underwood who truly went down in the books.
The former American Idol winner became the most awarded act in the history of the award show, racking up her 17th win. In addition to taking home the Female Video of the Year award for “Church Bells,” her and Urban won Collaborative Video of the Year for “The Fighter.”
“Thank you God for so many incredible blessings,” Underwood gushed during her solo acceptance speech before throwing in a “Go Preds,” dedicated to husband Mike Fisher and his Nashville teammates as they currently compete for a Stanley Cup title.
Hosted by Nashville star Charles Esten, the annual award ceremony was full of quality performances and southern charm. Charles Kelley, Darius Rucker and Jason Aldean linked up for a soaring tribute to the late Gregg Allman with “Midnight Rider,” which featured a guitar solo from Derek Trucks. The night involved a handful of cross-genres as well, from Florida Georgia Line and The Chainsmokers, to Luke Bryan and Jason Derulo. Kelsea Ballerini also took the stage to debut her new single “Legends.” Other show-stopping performers included Thomas Rhett, Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum with Earth, Wind & Fire, Brothers Osborne with Peter Frampton, Brett Eldredge and Blake Shelton.
