TV and theatre icon Catherine Tate is joining the West End cast of Oh, Mary!, now playing at the Trafalgar Theatre.

She will be taking over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln from April 27. The role is currently played by Mason Alexander Park, who will play their final show on April 25. Catherine is best known for her comedy sketch show The Catherine Tate Show as well as her role in Doctor Who. However, she also has a rich history in theatre, starring in productions including The Enfield Haunting, Sleeping Beauty (Palladium Panto), and Much Ado About Nothing.

Giles Terrera, who plays Mary’s Husband, will also be leaving the show on March 14 with Scott Karim taking over from March 16. The current West End cast includes Kate O’Donnell as Mary’s Chaperone, Oliver Stockley as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant, and Dino Fetscher as Mary’s Teacher.

The casting news is accompanied by a show extension, with the production now booking until July 18, 2026. Oh, Mary! has received rave reviews since its debut in the UK, with Time Out calling it “Dizzyingly, breathtakingly funny… a fast and wild joy ride!”

Written by Cole Escola and directed by Sam Pinkleton, Oh, Mary! is a dark comedy play which tells the story of Mary Todd Lincoln, a bored alcoholic wife who longs to return to the stage as a cabaret star, but instead is constantly undermined by her homosexual husband, who just happens to be Abraham Lincoln, the President of the United States.

Oh, Mary! first opened on Broadway in July 2024 at the Lyceum Theatre, and became the first show of the 2024/25 Broadway season to recoup its investment. The show was nominated for five Tony Awards, winning Best Direction of a Play as well as Best Actor in a Play for Cole Escola, the first non-binary winner in the category.
