Singer and song-writer Jack Walton is best known for appearing on the 2014 series of ‘The X Factor,’ whereby he was mentored by Mel B. He made it to the Live Shows stage of the competition and since coming off the show, he has continued to go from strength to strength in his music career.
With the release of his new single ‘Runaway,’ following the release of his debut single earlier this year and an upcoming album, exciting times inevitably lie in store for the talented Yorkshire performer.
Here at CelebMix, we had the opportunity to exclusively speak with Jack Walton about his new music, what can be expected from his upcoming album, his time on ‘The X Factor’ and more. Keep reading to check out our interview with him!
You recently released your new single, titled ‘Runaway.’ What does the track represent to you?
“It represents that magical moment when you first meet someone and there’s an instant attraction – the attraction being so strong that it makes you want to run away together.”
What was it like shooting the music video for the track?
“It was class! You can never predict how a shoot is going to look, so getting the shots we wanted and only having so many days to film was kind of stressful, but hey, it was kind of hard to stress in a place like Boracay in the Phillipines! It was the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen and if you don’t believe me, watch the video.”

‘Runaway’ is the second single from your upcoming album. What can be expected from the album?
“This is where I really try and get people interested in listening! I’ve heard the album and it’s got me excited. The thing with this album that keeps coming up is that all the tracks are very different from each other. My label and production house, ‘The House of Nanchang’ worked hard alongside me and gave me the freedom to explore different sounds. We did this because almost every album I listen to I tend to skip songs. Expect to get to know me on a deeper level and to find it difficult to get the tunes out of your head.”
If you were to sum up your music sound in three words, what would they be and why?
“Electronic meets acoustic. There’s electronic and acoustic sounds working together. What I love about pop records is that you can draw on so many different sounds/styles.”
Who are your musical influences?
“Led Zeppelin, Justin Bieber, Hendrix, Prince, Fleetwood Mac, Ben Howard, Matt Corby, Anderson Paak, Paolo Nutini, The Beatles, Pink Floyd – I could go on for a while!”
Going back to your time on ‘The X Factor’ several years ago, what was your stand-out memory from your time on the show?
“Having Louis Tomlinson’s support during the show was surreal. When the show finished, I spent time with him at his home in LA – that’s a privilege and an experience I’ll never forget.”
Do you feel the show was a good platform, allowing you to be able to release your own music and build up a fan base?
“I feel that the show is a good platform. It really does get your name out there fast. I’m very lucky to have gained so much support from being on the show, not just within the UK, but worldwide. It’s crazy how popular the show is.”
Is there anything you would like to achieve music-wise?
“I think everyone should aim as high as possible. I’d like a few Grammy Awards for the most records ever sold. Seriously though, I’d like to think that my music will continue to evolve with time as I begin to know myself as an artist more and grow as a person. As long as I see/feel improvement, I’ll be a happy boy.”
Other than your upcoming album, what else have you planned for the remainder of the year/into next year in terms of your music?
“I want to get out playing my music wherever I can, so we’ll be looking into making that happen. Then we’ll make a start on album two. We make music constantly. The Nanchang and I are really fussy, so a lot of it gets thrown away, but I guess that’s just part of the process.”
Finally, do you have a message for your supporters?
“I hope you’re all happy and enjoying life as much as possible. Thanks again for joining me on my journey as an artist.”
