CelebMix Exclusive Interview: RØYLS Talk About Their Debut Single ‘Savages,’ Upcoming Plans and More

Trio RØYLS – comprising of members Sean Killeen (vocals/guitar), Liam Ross (bass/vocals) and Drew Dirksen (vocals/guitar) – have recently released their phenomenal debut single ‘Savages.’

Prior to this project, each respective member was involved in other music ventures and this is just the beginning of what is set to be a very exciting journey for the band.

The project first began back in 2018, with the three members meeting in LA to write together. The three of them clicked as song-writers, musicians and people.

‘Savages’ is bursting with pop, rock and electronic sounds, which help contribute to the high-energy debut single, making it a phenomenal breakout single!

CelebMix had the opportunity to exclusively speak with RØYLS about the release of their debut single ‘Savages,’ what they have lined up in the coming months and much more. Keep reading to check out our exclusive interview!

You guys have just released your debut single ‘Savages.’ How does it feel to have your own music released?

“Honestly, it’s so exciting. We’ve been counting down the days for a while now! We’re a little anxious by nature, like any artist, to release music for the first time. We just hope the fans can connect with it like we do.”

The track was co-written with John Feldmann, who has worked with artists such as 5 Seconds of Summer and Panic! At The Disco. What was it like to work with such an iconic song-writer?

“It’s such an honour. John’s an absolute legend and we’re so stoked that we have the opportunity to work together. He’s taught us so much already and writing this song together was an experience we won’t forget.”

Digging a bit deeper into the track, what is the meaning behind ‘Savages’?

“‘Savages’ is based upon a failing relationship. It’s the struggles towards the end as you care so much about this person that you don’t want to call it quits, but it’s hurting both of you so much more trying to repair what went wrong.”

Is there a message that you want to be conveyed through your music for listeners to grasp?

“It’s cool that everyone can interpret the meaning however they want to. There’s no right or wrong answer to how the song or any song can make you feel – it’s one of the many reasons music is so powerful and important.”

You all come from different backgrounds and been involved with different bands in the past. How did embarking on this new project come about?

“We’ve been in bands and played shows together in the past, so it was pretty natural forming. We all wanted to do a new project and had similar visions so we decided to create RØYLS.”

‘Savages’ is no doubt only the start of what is set to be an incredible journey for you guys. Are you looking forward to getting even more original music released?

“100%. We don’t want to give any spoilers away, so let’s just say we’ve been in the studio a lot recently.”

As a band, who are your musical influences?

“Growing up, we each had our individual influences and idols that have inspired us over the years, but two recent bands that have really inspired us would have to be Twenty One Pilots and The 1975.”

Is there anything in particular that you guys would most like to achieve?

“Longevity and creative growth. Sure we have milestones and favourite venues we want to play, but the most important thing to us is happiness and always growing as artists.”

Looking ahead, what else can be expected from you guys in the coming months? Will there be more music released/an EP/headline tour?

“There’s definitely talks for playing shows and releasing music in the near future, but where’s the fun in giving it all away just yet?!”

Finally, do you have a message for your supporters?

“Thank you for all your support since the announcement of the band – it’s been truly overwhelming!”
