With the 2018 Brit Awards fast approaching, we caught up with two of the Brits Critics’ Choice nominees, Mabel and Stefflon Don backstage at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Coca-Cola.
Night two of the 10th annual sell-out event saw performances from chart-topping megastar Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Sigala, The Script, Mabel, Louisa Johnson, James Hype, Matt Terry, The Chainsmokers, Stefflon Don, Liam Payne and Big Shaq. Phew.
CelebMix headed backstage at London’s O2 Arena to chat musical inspirations and favourite Christmas songs with singer-songwriter Mabel and singer & rapper Stefflon Don.
Before performing her hit song ‘Finders Keepers’, Mabel chatted to us about her musical inspos and who she’s been hanging with backstage.
On her musical inspirations.
Destiny’s Child, obviously Beyonce, Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill, Justin Timberlake. Just lots of R&B and soul and fun music.
On meeting other artists backstage.
I’ve met people that I’ve met before like Liam Payne and Stefflon Don, but I’m hoping to see some other people.
Is she hoping to meet Taylor Swift?
Definitely. Yeah, definitely.
On her favourite Christmas song.
I love ‘Santa Baby’ because it’s very sassy. Love ‘Santa Baby’.
Will she do a cover of it?
Maybe I should.

Stefflon Don also took to the stage at The O2 Arena, performing her huge French Montana collaboration ‘Hurtin’ Me’. Backstage she told us about her Critics’ Choice nom and what’s in store for 2018.
On being nominated for the Critics’ Choice Brit Award alongside 2 other women.
I think it’s a wonderful thing. Critics’ Choice Award, we had Mabel and then we had Jorja [Smith] who won it, so congratulations to Jorja. Which was sick, just 3 women in the Critics’ Choice Awards, that’s amazing. I feel like anyone deserved to win.
On her hopes for 2018.
I wanna do something that’s a bit more out of the box next year, something totally different.
I just hope to do more music, and more on a bigger sale. Do bigger tours, maybe a world tour might be lit. I don’t know if I’ll do that in 2018 but hopefully we’re working towards something like that. And an album.
On her favourite Christmas song.
I like Destiny’s Child, that Christmas song. sings On the fifth day of Christmas my baby gave to me… Don’t know the words but I love the song.
