This weekend saw the return of Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Coca-Cola at London’s O2 Arena.
Night two of the 10th annual sell-out event featured performances from chart-topping megastar Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Sigala, The Script, Mabel, Louisa Johnson, James Hype, Matt Terry, The Chainsmokers, Stefflon Don, Liam Payne and Big Shaq. Phew.
CelebMix headed backstage at the O2 where we caught up with chart-topping DJ Sigala about his upcoming album, hearing his songs in public and, erm, having his song featured on UK reality show Love Island. Obvs.
On ‘Came Here For Love’ being used on Love Island.
It was hard not to [watch Love Island], to be honest, because everyone was talking about it. I had missed basically 90% of it, and then sort of caught a bit at the end because I felt like I was missing out. But, yeah, the support they gave to the song was unreal.
I didn’t follow it that much. I saw a few episodes and was like this is pretty cool.
Was it an honour to have his song on the show?
Of course, yeah. It’s so good. The show and the song were made for each other.
On what his fans can expect in 2018.
I’m just about to finish my album now, which is gonna be coming out early next year. So I’m really excited about that. There are some really cool collabs and I’ve been working with some crazy people. I’m looking forward to being able to get that out.
On hearing his songs played in public.
It’s still really weird, to be honest with you. I still have my friends calling me up or messaging me, sending me a video of it playing in Topshop or whatever. It’s still weird.
On his dream collaboration.
I keep saying Ed Sheeran. His dressing room is literally opposite mine as well so I feel like I’m obliged now to go and try and make that happen.
On his New Year’s Resolutions.
Just keep doing my thing. I love making music so I just wanna keep focusing on that and try and work with some new people.
With so many hits under his belt, Sigala was spoilt for choice when it came to his Jingle Bell Ball setlist, playing a whopping 6 tracks: ‘Sweet Lovin’, ‘Easy Love’, ‘Say You Do’, ‘Give Me Your Love’, ‘Ain’t Giving Up On You’ and of course ‘Came Here For Love’. He also brought a few of his famous mates on stage, including Ella Eyre, John Newman and Imani.
