Singer-songwriter and actress Charley Young recently released “Hold The Moon,” a dance/pop song full of vibrant contagious energy.
Young, a member of SAG-AFTRA/AEA/BMI, was born in sunny San Diego, California, but grew up on Florida’s Gulf Coast, listening to Depeche Mode, The Cure, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Tom Petty, and Duran Duran.
Describing her musical influences, Young says, “I’m deeply influenced by these bands and artists of the ’80s and ’90s. Even though these artists differ from one another, each one has inspired me and has helped me develop my unique sound. I like to think that I create traditional pop/dance music with a touch of individuality.”
She knew early on she wanted to be an entertainer, through music, writing, and acting. Later, she performed on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, in the White House, and at Washington, D.C.’s Austrian Embassy, all prior to finishing high school. Since then she’s performed at Webster Hall, the Duplex, American Beauty NYC, Vinyl Music Hall, and the Bitter End.
“Hold The Moon” opens on swirling streams of sparkling colors, buoyant and effervescent, followed by the entry of the deliciously stylish thump of an infectious dance groove. Luminous textures flow in layers, infusing the harmonics with pulsing radiations.
A drum-filled breakdown shifts the harmonics prior to moussing up to coruscating pop-infused hues, glowing with dance muscle, as Young’s velvety tones glide overhead. Backing vocal harmonies inject the lyrics with blooming depth and sonic dimension.
“I see you stumblin’ / Can’t see your hand right in front of your face / I know you’re shakin’ / I feel you call out, call out, call out / Oh oh / Where are the stars when you feel so broken? / Oh oh, / Look at the sky and you’ll see me / I’ll be holding up the moon for you, oo / Holding up the moon for you, oo.”
“Hold The Moon” pulses with dynamic dance impetus crowned by glossy harmonics, and the rich, lustrous voice of Charley Young.
