Tonight’s episode of the BBC family history show Who Do You Think You Are? Features pop singer and former X Factor judge Cheryl. The fourth episode in the new series which has also seen EastEnders actor Danny Dyer discover his own family history, will see the Geordie babe finding out all sorts of interesting facts about her own family tree.
Cheryl filmed the episode back in June and travelled to the France/Belgium border where she was humbled by the story of her Great Grandfather Joseph Ridley, who was a hero in the first World War.
The 33-year-old also discovers that Joseph also fathered illegitimate twin girls with his housekeeper-at the time it was a huge scandal as it was seriously frowned upon in those days to have children out of wedlock.
The ‘Call My Name’ hitmaker is particularly interested in looking into her mother Joan’s side of the family as she says “things feel more mysterious on her side, I never heard tales. I think she had a lot of questions herself when I was growing up”
Cheryl also discovers that her dad Garry Tweedy’s side of the family were mariners, which the star is surprised about as she thought they would all be coal miners. She said “It’s interesting because I hate the sea. I’ve always been afraid of it. I had really bad dreams when I was little about drowning in it, being an old woman with a headscarf on. Isn’t that weird?”
Tonight’s episode will also see the the singer working on her fifth studio album in the recording studio with music producer Neil A Tucker.
